In 1979 half of the tree fell in a storm. Whether the weight of the concrete partially filling its hollow centre was a contributory factor will remain unknown. The argument to leave what remained of the tree was won and it has recovered. From a height of about 10' there is an outpouring of branches. |

Russell Cleaver - Female tree, hollow, split asunder in a 1979 storm it's been carefully pruned and now thrives. However its girth is measured from the surviving shell and is thus unlikely to have ever been larger. 2 other yews on site, a female alongside and a male. |
