Blackmoor

Tree ID: 3642

Yews recorded:

Tree girth: 571cm

Girth height: at base

Tree sex: female

Date of visit: 22/10/2011

Source of earliest mention: Peter Norton

Notes:

Four yews grow here, three of which are in the graveyard that was extended after the 2nd world war. To the south of the church and growing on a small mound is this multi-stemmed tree. All eight stems are female. It is unclear whether this is a re-growth from an old tree that originally filled the space. Girth at the base was 18’ 9” (571cm) with an undulating tape. Milnes map of Hampshire, 1791, does not indicate a church at that time so it seems more likely that this is not a significantly old tree.
