Notes:1983 – Allen Meredith: ‘There are two obvious portions of the trunk, one almost lying on the ground, supported by metal posts, a metal band higher up in the branches gives more support to the tree. The metal band has obviously been there many years and helps to hold the two portions of the trunk together.Despite all that the tree has gone through it is looking quite healthy, and should survive for centuries to come. Because of the unusual formation of this tree measurement was not exactly easy. I measured the girth at three feet from the gound and made is 23′ 4”. The tree is now in a westerly direction from the church. It appears to have changed very little.’ In 1984 Meredith observed both male and female parts on the tree.
1994: A girth of 23′ (701cm) was given to this yew in Chetan and Brueton’s ‘The Sacred Yew’.
April 1999 – Tim Hills: The tree shows no ill effects from its removal to the present site in 1880. Its sagging branches are supported on 9 props. It apparently has a single female branch, though it appeared male throughout at the time of our visit.
2005: Visited by John Hodges who reported that the tree continues to flourish.
