Source of earliest mention: Peter Norton
Notes:Peter Norton:This resembles no other yew I have seen and has the ‘Wow’ factor. There is a gap on the west side and stepping inside the lack of height of the main trunk is evident. The lower branches have layered and on the south east side a substantial tree grows, still joined to the main trunk. The north side of the tree shows what were once internal roots along with a loss of the outer trunk. Badger activity is burying many lower branches. To move around beneath this yew required clambering over and under large branches.
Mark Hinsley: It is secondary growth from an old trunk remnant. It has a canopy spread of 26m, with 2 generations of self layering clearly evident. Quite an amazing tree, the secondary growth alone must be centuries old.
