Source of earliest mention: c1939 Arthur Mee 'The King's England'.

Notes:

In Arthur Mee’s 1939 King’s England series, the following was described at All Saints Church, Fifehead Neville: “A decrepit yew, with props under its branches, stands like an old cripple at the church gate. Most of the people who have memorials in the building must have stood beneath it, including Robert Ryves, who died in 1658”.
In 2010 Peter Norton reported “One hollow female yew, with a girth of 11’ 1” at 1’, growing on a raised bank at the southeast gate.” This is almost certainly the ‘decrepit yew’ described in The King’s England.
