August 2000 – Tim Hills: Five huge branches radiate from this hollowing bole. A 6th, now a hollowed out shell, remains to remind us of the tree’s former glory. The notice by the tree gives it an age between 900 and 1300 years.
Wim Peeters: The yew is referred to on p138 of the 1868 Annuaire des cinq departements de l’ancienne Normandie, Par Association Normande, Association normande pour le progres de l’agriculture, de l’ industrie, des sciences et des arts. ‘The church is always shaded by its famous yew, talked about by the scientist Rever in his Voyage des eleves des ecole centrale de l’Eure pendant les vacances de l’an VIII (Travels of the students of the central school of the Eure, during its vacations of the year VIII), p. 136. It was 21 feet around in its central part, a girth which had not significantly increased.
