Toby Hindson notes that ‘the tree has lost cambium and re-trenched/re-grown its bole. It has developed a substantial quantity of classic twisted and burred growth which has had time to die and decay. Its girth increase has from then been only on one side of the bole, meaning that the bole increase rate over that period is probably significantly reduced’.
In October 2008 its girth was recorded by Chris Hickman for the Ancient Tree Hunt (number 143786).
