Groes-faen

Tree ID: 5102

Yews recorded: Notable

Tree girth: 368cm

Girth height: at 90cm

Tree sex: Unspecified

Date of visit: 09/05/2017

Source of earliest mention: Stuart Reid

Notes:

2016 – Stewart Reid: Girth of 11′ 11” (363cm) at 1′.
2021 – Tim Hills: I recorded 12′ 1” (368cm) at 1′ and 13′ 4” (406cm) at 3′. There was much soil etc pushed up against the trunk, so I might have measured at a different height from Stuart Reid. The yew’s girth suggests it is older than an 1892 planting, the year of the church foundation on this site. The last photo shows upright growth along one of the branches. This is unusual in churchyards and more commonly seen on woodland yews.
