Here is an extraordinary clipped crown above a fine large cylindrical trunk which is visible for a height of about 2.5m. The following girths were recorded: 4.82m at 30cm, just above its bulgy roots, 4.76m at 1m and 4.89m at 150cm.
In Arcisse de Caumont’s 1867 Statistique monumental du Calvados, vol 5, page 569, he describes that ‘an old tombstone in the form of a cross, with a prismatic top, serves as a bench under the yew’. This is seen in the photos.
