Notes:

Kilmington is only a mile from the Somerset border, and was presumably regarded as in Somerset in 1836, when William Phelps wrote his “History and antiquities of Somersetshire – Volume 1, Parts 3-6. He described that ‘the tower contains three bells; the date of the largest is 1584. In the churchyard is an ancient raised tomb, and a venerable yew-tree. The rectory house stands at some distance south-east of the church, and is a comfortable residence, commanding an extensive view to the east, with garden and pleasure grounds, containing a choice collection of plants, cultivated by the Rev. Townsend Selwyn, an excellent botanist.’
