Tree ID: 109
Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m
Tree girth: 518cm
Girth height: at 5cm
Tree sex: unspecified
Date of visit: 15-Feb-98
Source of earliest mention: 1988: Churchyard yews of Gwent - J.Daryll Evans
Notes:In 1988 Revd J.Daryll Evans, in his book ‘The Churchyard Yews of Gwent’ recorded a girth of 575 cm (18′ 10′) at the base and 750 cm (24′ 7′) at 1m.
February 1998 – Tim Hills: A hollow half shell growing on a mound. Pieces of decaying stump suggest it has been larger.
In 2000 I recorded a girth of about 17′, measured as high on the bole as was needed to exclude the branches growing from the base of the tree.
2016 – Paul Wood: I found the Churchyard here well kept and on a lovely day was possible to see some great views back up towards Llanthony. Sadly the yew looked a little less inspiring. Virtually invisible behind thick, thick ivy that covered the ground and all parts way up into the crown. This tree needs attention. Measurement was not possible, nor photographing its hidden bole.
