Tree ID: 577
Yews recorded: Ancient 5m-7m
Tree girth: 625cm
Girth height: at the ground
Tree sex: male
Date of visit: 31-May-99
Source of earliest mention: 1986: Churchyard yews of Gwent - J.Daryll Evans
Notes:Tim Hills – 1999: A male yew east of the church. Its bole sweeps upwards above its cavernous hollow, with larger branches emerging from a height of between 10′ and 15′. A girth of 21′ 8” (660cm) at the ground included a piece of stump that may or may not be part of the original tree. A measurement excluding the stump was 20′ 8” (630cm).
Revisiting in 2007 I recorded a girth at the ground of 21′ 10” (665cm) including the stump and 20′ 6” (625cm) excluding it.
February 2018 – Peter Norton: Directly east of the church. A very large yew with a large basal cavity in a splayed root flare and internal roots. Unable to measure due to low spray and encroaching ivy. Think the additional stump is not from the original yew.
