1938 The King’s England – Arthur Mee: “We imagine that the oldest inhabitant in Wiltshire is the great yew in the churchyard, with about twenty huge limbs held up on 30 props.”
c1982 Allen Meredith: “The tree was only 12′ in girth, male, and still propped up by many poles.”
2010 Peter Norton: This is the largest of three yews in the churchyard, a male with a girth of 11′ 10″ (361cm) at 2′ growing close to the north porch. One of its main branches is now propped to avoid damage to the memorials beneath the tree. Many other smaller branches have been removed.
A male with a girth of 11′ 3″ (343cm) at 1′ grows south of the church along with a younger yew on the east perimeter.
