Sylva Florifera by Henry Phillips (1823) contains the following information: ‘At Mill Hill,Hendon, in Middlesex, are four beautiful yew-trees, which, in 1797, measured from seven to nine feet each in circumference’. Owen Johnson reports that a few trees have survived from this time, but seemingly none of the yews.
