The location is recorded in Lowe’s 1896 The Yew Trees of Great Britain and Ireland. It is incorrectly called Haworth Castle. The yew is recorded as having a girth of 15′ 11” (485cm) at 3′, a bole length of 11′ and a height of 55′. Its trunk was described as ‘decayed’. Ken Mills visit in the 1990s, researching for his The Cumbrian Yew Book, recorded a girth of 16′ 6”.
