Notes:1923: A History of the County of Berkshire: Volume 3: The yew grows south of the church, in the centre of the approach to the south porch. Trunk sinuous carrying wide-spreading medium weight branches making a broad, rounded crown, lopped off to about 5′ to give headroom. A wooden seat dated 1907 encircles the tree, as does the footpath.
In 1988 Betty Arlott responded to the Country Living magazine request for yew information to be sent to David Bellamy at the Conservation Foundation. On 5th May 1988 she reported a girth of approximately 10′ 2” (310cm) just above seat. The Conservation Foundation, advised by Allen Meredith, issued a certificate giving an estimated age of 300 years to the yew.
Peter Norton 2011: A male yew south of the porch, with a girth of 11’ 2” (340cm) at 1’ 6” (marked by a nail) and the same at 3’. Foliage was healthy. As with many yews encircled by a bench, the root is considerably swollen beneath the bench height.
