Notes:June 2002 – Tim Hills: The tree was blown down in 1883, shortly after these images were created. It was a local meeting-point as well as being a tourist attraction.
In his 1894 book Yew trees of Great Britain and Ireland, Lowe showed no fewer than 3 pictures of the Patterdale yew, including the trunk lying on the ground.
