Notes:

The yew would have grown SE of the church that was demolished in the late eighteenth century. It appears solid, but there are hollow spaces, some filled with concrete after the removal of branches. This is a fine expansive tree growing vigorously.
1836: The tree was measured by J.C.Loudon and a girth of 18′ 6” (564cm) at 5′ was recorded. Information supplied by Allen Meredith.
1869: Granville W.G.Leveson Gower thought ‘it may well be considered to be six to eight hundred years old’. He recorded a girth of 19′ 6” (594cm) at 5′.
1982 – Allen Meredith: Girth of 21′ 1” (640cm) at 5′ recorded.
2006 – Tim Hills: Girth of 21′ 10” (665cm) at 5′ recorded.
2020 – Ancient Tree Inventory: A girth of 552cm (18′ 1”) at 20cm recorded.
