Wilmington - Kent

A fairly cylindrical yew, its trunk thickening above head height. A brass sign by the tree contains details of its planting date -1732 – and several girth recordings, all taken at three feet:
4′ 1½” in 1803 – measured on the 6th June by James and Robert Harman.
5′ 2½” in 1846 – measured on the 5th April by James Harman and Rev Frederick Heberden.
7′ 3½” in 1947 – measured on the 8th August by Henry Goodwin, verger, Timothy Pratt aged 5 and the Rev James H.Pratt.
7′ 10½” in 1972 – measured on 11th July by Stan Stringer, Church warden, Jonathan Stringer, aged 7 and Charlie Day, verger.
8′ 3½” in 1984 – measured on 28th April by Stanley Harman, Richard King, aged 11 and Ann King, church warden.
