Notes: Antrim Castle is on the banks of the Sixmilewater River. It was erected between 1613 and 1662, destroyed by fire in 1922 and demolished in the 1970s. The gardens are a popular tourist attraction and have been described as follows: "There is nothing else like it anywhere else in Northern Ireland. It has a YewTree Pond. Subsequently, the Motte became an integral part of the development of the Castle Gardens providing a focal point for the avenue layout in the late 17th and early 18th century garden (note the fabulous glimpse through the Yew tunnel and along the Canal to the Cascade on climbing the Motte) and then undergoing a major landscape makeover with spiral Yew hedge and Scots Pines in the mid 19th century".
