Notes: A private garden, though the yew can be seen from the road (Valley Road). People usually stop here to see the blue plaque, for this was the birthplace of the poet A.E.Houseman. The house is mainly an early Georgian farmhouse, but has a late 16th/early 17th century timber framed "one up, one down" cottage at the heart of it.  It is thought that there has been a house on the site for longer still because the garden has the outline of possible building foundations under the lawn and a trace of some old ridge and furrow beyond.  There is no known ecclesiastical site nearby and no ancient well either, although it stands on the springline in a valley, close by an old road running along the side of a stream which feeds the river Salwarpe.
