Notes: The tree was originally part of a large walled garden belonging to Alms Houses which were given to the town by Sir Thomas Crewe in 1600s. Permission was given to build houses in this small close on condition that the yew and a further two smaller trees were preserved. The yew continues to thrive but the other two trees have gone.
