Notes: This site was immortalised in May 1795 when Samuel Taylor Coleridge wrote 'Brockley Coomb' - lines composed while climbing the left ascent of Brockley Coomb. He described: 'From the deep fissures of the naked rock the Yew-tree bursts!' The left ascent of the Combe is privately owned and inaccessible but does contain yews. The trees featured here would be found by making a right hand ascent of the combe, though it is easier to start nearer to the top of the combe and make a left hand descent!
