Notes: Down Ampney church was established in 1265 by the Knights Templar and was altered in the 19th century. As well as the yew, remains of an old yew hedge can be seen. On leaving the churchyard a footpath (not the bridleway) heads south. Here several yews are found on the west side and behind an old crumbling wall. All were ivy covered and the only tree that could be measured girthed just over 10'.
