Notes: Primary school grounds, formerly part of a large estate noted in the Domesday Book. According to the History of Edenthorpe, Sir Robert Swyft (about 1568 - 1625) 'planted many yew trees to provide the raw materials for the bows and some still grow inside the grounds of Edenthorpe Hall which currently is the home of the Edenthorpe Hall Primary School'. These trees were threatened with felling to enable a classroom extension to go ahead, but were ultimately allowed to remain. Though the age of both trees have been estimated at 200 to 300 years old, if they were planted at he time of Sir Robert Swyfte their ages could be closer to 400 years.
