Notes: It is possible to visit the castle and grounds at certain times of the year. In 1847 the following appeared in The Book of Perth: 'In 1297 Sir William Wallace commenced his successful efforts against the English forces in Scotland, and some of his adventures are connected with the vicinity of Perth, particularly with Elcho Castle, about a mile below the remains of the Nunnery of Elcho, at the north-east corner of which a remarkable yew-tree has been long known as Wallace's Yew'.
