Notes: St Nicholas, the original church in Fonthill Gifford, stood next to a stream in the northeast corner of the parish from 1291 until it was demolished in 1747. As I understand it no trace remains. At the same time (1747) Holy Trinity was built and located 1km further away, near the crossroads and the Inn, only to be demolished and replaced by a second Holy Trinity building between 1864 and 1866. The present church is on a NE/SW orientation. The churchyard is surrounded on three sides by a ha-ha, while the east boundary is defined by a fine stone wall. The church is approached through an avenue of six large cypresses.
