Notes: Hatherop Castle is now a school and the grounds cannot be visited without permission. Yews at this location were noted by Elwes and Henry - in volume 1 of their Trees of Great Britain and Ireland. In 'The ancient and present state of Glostershire' by Sir Robert Atkyns, published in 1712, Johannes Kip's engraving suggests a newly planted hedge or perhaps a row of yew trees that reach close to the house.
