Reference to a yew in this area dates from December 2nd 1687: “An ancient yew tree stood among the ruins of Lapford Manor.” This information was provided by a book called The Du Bury-Berry Family in General:The Benjamin Berry Family in Particular by Mary E Quillen Honeywell, published in 1970. Much research has taken place to find this location and an article in LapfordHistory.co.uk entitled 'In search of Lapford's Ancient Yew' is well worth reading.
