Notes: In the 1833 Topographical Dictionary, St Mary's church at Llanbrynmair was described as 'an ancient structure' with 'some yew-trees of fine growth and of great age' in its churchyard. The place the writers were referring to is today called Llan, about 2 miles from Llanbrynmair. Both of its two trees were so buried in years of accumulated churchyard waste that it was not possible to see the original boles.
