Notes: A privately owned Scheduled Monument site with no access, but the trees are clearly visible from the road, NW of the 12th century Middleton Chapel. In Discovering Shropshire's History it is described as 'an unusually small example of a medieval motte (earthwork castle), with steep, stepped sides, this may have been a watchtower rather than a castle'. The feature 'consists of a nearly circular mound some 20m across and 2.7m high, with a smaller, flat topped mound adjoining it to the NE'. Over centuries it had become colonised by trees and shrubs, which have been recently cleared. This has uncovered two ancient yews, hidden from view for decades, but now clearly seen.
