Notes: Roche Abbey is set in a valley landscaped by Capability Brown in the 18th century. Here is 'one of the most complete ground plans of any English Cistercian monastery, laid out as excavated foundations'. It is an English Heritage site and much of the surrounding area has SSSI status.
