Notes: Two yews grow on the north side of the church. This site is part of a large area of parkland on the outskirts of Brighton. The drawing from the Burrell Collections shows the yew closest to the north porch. It is entitled Stanmer: The Old Church, c1780. The trees were first mentioned in 1833 on p336 of An historical and descriptive account of the coast of Sussex by J.D.Parry. He noted 'two curious old yew-trees in the churchyard'.
