Notes: This was once a churchyard yew - the church was pulled down in 1776 by Sir John Gresham. The parkland where the tree is found is open to the public. Parts of the Pilgrims' Way, which runs through the park, were once 'a very ancient track, made before the coming of the Romans, but used by them, as would appear from the numerous traces of villas and other Roman remains near its course' (1869 Granville W.G. Leverson Gower). Beneath the yew are several stone coffin lids thought to be of Saxon origin.
