Yews recorded at this site: Notable

Notes: Of the three old yews noted here, the two smaller grow beside old burial places, while the larger is on a part of an old peel tower's outbuildings. Searching for information we came across a reference in 1845 of a 'Yew, clean stem, of 6 feet 2 inches: circumference at ground, 6 feet, and at top, 4 feet 9 inches'. It seems likely that the two smaller yews would have been in a wooded area in 1845 and would not have been noted by a casual surveyor. The largest at that time would have been visible as it was only 60 years after Old Torwoodlee was abandoned in favour of the new house - see www.torwoodlee.com.
