Notes: Two yews grow side by side at the west end of the church. In Arcisse de Caumont's 1846 'Statistique Monumentale du Calvados Vol.1', Villy is recorded on p195. The entry says that 'in front of the door is a yew of considerable size. It must be one of the most beautiful yews that exists in the département'. Since 1846 the name has changed to the present day Villy-Bocage. Caumont only mentioned one yew and it would seem that the 2nd yew, while substantial now, would have been a very young tree in 1846. Our thanks to Wim Peeters for locating this information and making it available to the Ancient Yew Group.
