Notes: 1890: The Hants Antiquary and Naturalist reproduced an article that appeared in The Hampshire Independent on October 5th 1889. This extract is from this article. "In the churchyard some interest was elicited by a fine old yew, which it was thought might be a thousand years old. The trunk of the tree is hollow, and inside is growing a newer stem, an instance, as Mr.T.W.Shore pointed out, of the powers of rejuvenescence possessed by the yew. It evidently has the power of renewing its youth, and to this fact is due (the Rev.H.R.Fleming, of Corhampton, mentioned) its selection for churchyards as an emblem of immortality." The Norman church is on a site of Saxon origin. The impressive yew grows SSE of the church. A smaller female yew with a girth of 11' 2'' at 1' in 2011 grows near the east gate.
