Notes:1988: The Conservation Foundation were sent measurements of 28′ 4” (864cm) at 3′ and 28′ 2” (859cm) at 4′.
2003 Tim Hills recorded a girth of 27′ 5″ (836cm) close to the ground and 28′ 7” (871cm) at 3′. The gap between the fragments at the ground was 1′ 10″ on one side and 3′ 2″ on the other.
May 2006 -Jack Oliver -Tree Register’s Wiltshire recorder: Hollow, 2 halves separated but clearly originally one tree. Both halves very healthy, similar heights of 16m but reduced by surgery. Girth at 1.5m = 875cm; at 0.3m = 850cm. W half at 1.5m = 438cm; E half at 1.5m = 500cm. Crown spread E-W = 17.3m, N-S = 13m (limited by wall of church).
April 2012 – Peter Norton: Tree looked in good condition with healthy foliage. Height of girth recordings taken from the ground nearest the church. 27′ 9” (846cm) close to the ground (one rusty bent over nail marks the position). 28′ (853cm) at 1′, 28′ 2” (859cm) at 2′ and 28′ 7” (871cm) at 3′. Other nails had been removed, the stained outer bark indicating where these had once been hammered in.
