Ampfield Wood

July 2017 – Hugo Egleston: Of the eight yews recorded here, this is the only ancient tree. It is male, has a girth of 15′ 4” (467cm) at 3′ and a good cylindrical stem with dead wood in 2 places. It is found at SU3966024101, south of the track between 2 bridges.
August 6th 2026 – Peter Norton: The male yew grows alongside a major track through Ampfield Wood at Ampfield near Romsey. Girth at 2ft was 15ft 6 ins (472cm). Break of crown at around 10ft with 3 main limbs. Summer vegetation around wood margins hampered further recording.
