Notes:The girth of this single stemmed yew is close to 16′, placing its likely age between 400 and 500 years. I understand that planning permission has been sought for some of the buildings close to the tree to be converted for habitation. The Ancient Yew Group is aware of instances where building work takes place knowing that a tree will cause a lack of light, and that once built a request to remove the tree is submitted. Yews of this age in Devon, growing outside of churchyards, are extremely rare and should be protected.
