Aylesford - The Friars

A painting of 1873 shows The Friars from the Walled Garden. It is unfortunate that we are not allowed to reproduce it here since it shows clearly in the centre of the picture two topiaried yews in the same position as the two trees shown here. The second photo shows the tree on the left after passing through the gate, the third shows the tree on the right. It is likely that today’s prolific ground branch activity is a result of earlier pruning/topiary which no longer takes place. Both are male and are found at grid ref. TQ7243658940 (accurate to 10m).
