Notes:If Wolsey knew this tree we must assume it would have been of a substantial size 500 years ago. This is certainly possible. The bole takes on a different appearance from each viewpoint, dividing into two main sections at a height of about 6′. Each section is many branched. One part of the bole is hollow. Some of the lower branches have been allowed to reach the ground and spread outwards before sweeping upwards again. Some of these will eventually take root. Girths of 15′ 11” (485cm) at 1′ and 16′ 5” (500cm) at 2′ were recorded.
