An ancient tree, with new slithers of growth on a dead sapwood shell. Spaces in the shell reveal a large internal stem filling the centre. The branches that rise above the shell appear consistent in size and suggest that the tree might at some time have been reduced to a large stump, which has regrown. Around the lower part of the bole there is much adventitious growth, and higher in the tree much twiggy growth. Thick elder and brambles prevented measurement. The tree swells from the base to a height of about 5ft.
