In the 1834 Guide to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, including Orkney and Zetland, produced by George and Peter Anderson, the garden at Cawdor Castle ‘presents a fine specimen of an ancient yew tree’. It is not known whether this yew survives. The site also contains clipped hedges, which were in situ by 1725 and are therefore about 300 years old.
