Chandler's Ford

A garden yew with a girth of 14/15ft. The story told about it in the area is that after King Rufus was killed hunting in the New Forest, they took his body back to Winchester Cathedral via our garden and planted the tree where they camped for the night. Unfortunately it suffered some damage in the hurricane. A certificate with an estimated age of 700 years was sent to the owner by the Conservation Foundation in 1989. The King Rufus claim would give it an age of 1100 years. Its size would suggest something lower than these estimates.
