Charlcombe

Tree ID: 907

Yews recorded: Notable

Tree girth: 287cm

Girth height: at 5cm

Tree sex: male

Date of visit: 23-Dec-00

Source of earliest mention: 1791: Collinson/Rack - History of Somerset

Notes:

December 2000 – Tim Hills: From the paintings seen in the site notes we can assume the tree was at least 50 years old in 1785. This would make it about 275 years old now. Its small girth is no doubt influenced by its inability to expand close to the ground. There is however considerable swelling above 1′, particularly on the side facing the path which will have been regularly cut back.
