Chesham

Tree ID: 3428

Yews recorded: Notable

Tree girth: 365cm

Girth height: not recorded

Tree sex: female

Date of visit: 25-May-11

Source of earliest mention: 1870: Records of Buckinghamshire

Notes:

If the three yews have survived, it is not certain which they are, amongst the eight that surround the church. The only certain candidate, shown here, grows south of the church. Its girth is about 12′, allowing for very thick ivy growing all around its trunk. SE and close to the churchyard entrance is a male yew which only girths 8′, but appears to be a new tree wrapped about an old one. The yew SW is more difficult to determine.
