April 2000 – Tim Hills: Such a sight is rare indeed. The field has presumably been grazed for centuries and lower growth systematically removed. Bark too has been stripped. The tree is hollow with a thin skin of living material for about three quarters of its girth. It was measured at the ground but above its roots.
2008 – Steve Young: Female. 800m NNW of church near old line of Pilgrim’s Way; ancient hollow tree with little bark covering. Girth 596cm at 1.4m.
