Claverley

Tree ID: 360

Yews recorded: Ancient 7m+

Tree girth: 739cm

Girth height: at the ground

Tree sex: unspecified

Date of visit: 9-Jun-99

Source of earliest mention: 1896: Shropshire - AJC Hare

Notes:

June 1999 – Tim Hills: An exceptional hollow yew, its outer shell comprising mainly dead wood with only a small area sustaining life. From this is much healthy growth. I recorded a girth of 24′ 3” (739cm) at the ground.
April 2009 – Edwin Pretty: The tree had a dustbin lid inside its cavity, and had suffered from fire damage due to vandalism. Since some of the branches are rubbing against the fabric of the church, it seems likely that the yew might be ‘lopped’ back in near future.
