Tree ID: 381
Yews recorded: Ancient 4m-5m
Tree girth: 457cm
Girth height: at the ground
Tree sex: female
Date of visit: 1-Sep-97
Source of earliest mention: 1791: Collinson/Rack - History of Somerset
Notes:September 1997 – Tim Hills: The yew grows W of the church. A fragment of the original tree remains in the form of a hollowed out piece of the shell carrying bright foliage on new branches. Girth was about 15′ (457cm) at the ground.
June 2009 – B.Saich: It is surviving well in spite of its great hollowness from ground level to about 9′ where the upper branches start to spread. I took a quick measurement at ground level and found it to be 15′ 10” (482.6cm). If the tree was whole and allowing for the extra curve, I would estimate that it might just top 16′.
